Customer story

Direct bookings up 2.8x for a Jaipur heritage hotel, off the OTAs.

A Jaipur heritage hotel handed OTAs commission on nearly every booking. Webzenia built destination, experience and stay content for travellers researching the city before they choose where to book, moving reservations onto the hotel's own channel.

The challenge

A Jaipur heritage hotel converted from a centuries-old haveli in the walled city, but nearly every booking arrived through an OTA that took a cut before the guest ever checked in. The property's own site existed mostly as a placeholder for guests who already knew its name.

Travellers planning a Jaipur stay were searching for the experience long before they picked a booking site: which havelis had courtyard dining, which neighbourhood put them closest to the forts, what a stay actually felt like. The hotel's site answered none of it, so it never entered the traveller's shortlist directly. Every commission paid was margin that could have gone into the property instead.

The approach

Webzenia started by mapping how travellers actually search a Jaipur stay: Ahrefs and Google Search Console query data separated destination searches (what to see, where to stay) from stay-intent searches naming this property directly, and the team built content against both.

The team wrote destination guides, experience pages for the courtyard dining and heritage walks the property offered, and stay pages that answered a traveller's real questions before they clicked through to a booking site. Content was built for someone still deciding on Jaipur, not just someone who had already chosen the hotel.

Technical work ran alongside: page speed on mobile, where most travel research happens, and structured data linking the destination and stay pages so search engines understood the relationship between them.

Google Business Profile was rebuilt with real photos, updated categories and prompt review responses, so the hotel appeared in the map pack for local heritage-hotel searches, and the booking engine was instrumented to attribute every direct reservation back to its source page.

The results

Direct bookings from organic grew 2.8x over eight months. Travellers who once landed on an OTA listing now found the property's own site first, while researching the destination itself.

More than 35 travel terms reached the top three results, spanning destination guides and stay-intent searches. The property stopped competing only on price inside an OTA listing and started winning the traveller before they opened one.

Cost per booking fell 52%, since a direct reservation carries no OTA commission. That saving holds on every booking the channel produces, not just the ones counted in this period.
