Customer story
A microfinance lender cuts loan processing to 40 minutes.
A Kolkata microfinance institution processed every loan on paper, with field officers on entry-level phones and 2G connections. Webzenia built a lightweight, offline-first Android app engineered for those exact devices.

The challenge
A Kolkata microfinance institution was processing every loan application on paper. Field officers collected documents by hand, carried them back, and waited on manual data entry and approval before anything moved.
A single application took 6 days end to end. With paper as the system, an officer could only get through 6 applications a day, and errors crept in at every transcription step. Growth was capped by how fast humans could move forms.
The constraint was the device, not the ambition. Field officers worked on entry-level Android phones with as little as 1GB of RAM, often on 2G connections in areas where a heavy app simply would not run. Anything built had to survive those conditions.
The approach
Webzenia built a lightweight Android app in Kotlin, engineered from the start for 1GB-RAM devices on 2G networks rather than retrofitted to them. Every screen, image, and request was budgeted against the slowest phone an officer would actually carry.
The app worked offline-first. Officers captured applicant details and documents on the device with no connection required, and the data synced through Firebase when a usable signal appeared. A dropped 2G connection in the field no longer meant a lost application or a wasted visit.
The interface was designed in Figma for speed and clarity over polish, with large touch targets and a short capture flow that a non-technical officer could learn in one session. The APK was kept small so it installed quickly and updated cleanly over a weak link.
We distributed through the Play Console, monitored real-world crashes with Sentry on low-end hardware, and tuned the build until it ran smoothly on the institution's actual fleet.
The results
Loan processing dropped from 6 days to 40 minutes. Paper collection and manual entry collapsed into a single offline capture that synced straight to approval.
Field officer output more than doubled, from 6 applications a day to 14. The throughput came without adding headcount.
The app held that performance on 1GB-RAM devices over 2G. It was engineered for those exact conditions, which is why the gains stuck in the field rather than only in the demo.
