Nike launched their campaign on point, right at the start of the women’s world cup in Australia and New Zealand. The campaign featured prominent female players like Alex Morgan and tapped into nostalgia for iconic moments like Brandi Chastain’s 1999 penalty kick.

    Check out the campaign here:

Nike later writes about the campaign in detail, on their Newsroom stating – ‘“What The Football” highlights the momentum in women’s sports and underscores Nike’s dedication to serve and support female athletes. Nike is industry-leading in its investment in women athletes, and the company is committed to growing women’s sports and building a better game through listening to athletes, serving them holistically and collaborating on creating positive change through sport.’

    Our Take

The campaign blends Nike’s stance on women in sports and the sudden increase in the growing audience for women athletes. The ad is fast-paced, capturing the exhilarating nature of women in sports. It highlights footballers from all over the world, underscoring some iconic football moments that made history.

What we like the most is that Nike does not stop at the campaign, they go a step further by creating a Nike Football YouTube channel. The channel includes short clips to highlight each player showcased in the campaign.

Nike’s stance on women in sports further encourages viewership. It puts the much-needed spotlight on the strength and perseverance of women in sports, encouraging younger athletes to follow their path with vigor.
